NOVASTRIKE Coming to Europe this Thursday

Good news for our European readers, NOVASTRIKE is coming to the PSN on Thursday. Our source tells us that it will be priced at €7.99 and will come with in game XMB music. Having played the US demo I'm looking forward to passing away lots of time on this.

I'm sure the PS3 Attitude writers will be pleased to hear that NOVASTRIKE will be launched with trophies, giving us yet another game to compete on.

NovaStrike coming to EU store with Trophies; everyone to get easier version

There are a few things we absolutely love here at PS3Attitude. We've already openly declared our adoration/addiction to that elusive and delectable chime when a hard-earned trophy is bestowed but another thing we can't get enough of is super tough top-down PSN shooters. So when news reached us that Tiki Games are finally going to release NovaStrike on the EU Store, and with the added bonus of trophy support, well, we immediately stocked up on some polish and extra virtual chammies in preparation.

We announced NovaStrike's imminent arrival back in March and, while it's great to hear more details emerge regarding its European release, there is also some good news for our U.S. readers. For those who have already taken the plunge with the sci-fi shooter (and possibly have thrown controllers at T.V.s/loved ones/pets in relation to its unforgiving learning curve) the update will also address the issue of some of us lesser mortals abandoning the game in frustration.

Recognising NovaStrike's onerous difficulty level, Tiki have revealed that the update will also include some fine tweaks which will allow the game to be more "accessible" to those of us who don't possess the reaction times of a puma or the prescience to know where those ground to air missiles will magically appear.

The update (with the aforementioned Trophy support) will hit the U.S. PS Store this month with a EU release of the whole kit and caboodle either at the same time or, at the latest, next month. We're working on getting an exact date and will keep you posted.

If you're looking for some more information about Novastrike there's a great interview over at The Sixth Axis with Kevin McCann, President of Tiki Games.

[Update] The aforementioned Kevin McCann took the time to respond to our request regarding release dates to state that the updated U.S. version (with more accessible difficulty modes, trophies, etc.) should be available for download at the end of August. The EU edition will be exactly the same though it is taking a tad longer so expect to see it around mid September. Kevin wanted to ensure European gamers eager to get their hands on NovaStrike that Tiki Games are working hard on the EU release and can't wait for the game to hit Europe. Fingers crossed the wait is nearly over.

NOVASTRIKE details emerge at TheSixthAxis

Our friends over at TheSixthAxis scored an interview with Kevin McCann of Tiki Games Inc. about their forthcoming PSN title, NOVASTRIKE. Follow the link to read the full article.

You'll remember we announced NOVASTRIKE was on it's way back in early March, so it's good to hear some more about it already.

"And there are two weapon systems - the beam and electro-mine - that aren't directly forward-firing. The beam will lash out a short distance in any direction when used. The electro-mine always falls behind the player's ship and lashes enemy fighters that come within a set distance of the mine. When upgraded the beam will chain-link its attack across multiple enemies, and the electro-mine becomes invaluable at helping clear up swarming enemies."

Full Details; NOVASTRIKE gunning for the PS Store

Tiki Games, who previously delivered the PSP exclusive Galaxy's End, are about to launch NOVASTRIKE on to the PSN.

Available soon via the PS Store, NOVASTRIKE is a top-down shooter reminiscent of arcade shooters from the 80's and 90's - just with better graphics of course!

We have the full details of what to expect when NOVASTRIKE hits the PS Store:

  • Seven challenging stages driven by objective-based goals
  • Free-roaming flight
  • Progressive weapon acquisition and upgrade system: as the player collects weapon drops from enemy ships the weapons themselves become available to the Scythe (the name of your ship) - there are nine base weapon systems, each with three subsequent upgrade levels
  • Air and ground targets: two separate weapon systems allow the player to combat both air and ground opponents
  • You're not alone: friendly fighters, bombers, and destroyers will aid you in your efforts to vanquish the Draelus invasion
  • DualShock 3 support
  • Continuing support: Tiki Games will be developing additional content for NOVASTRIKE throughout 2008
"NOVASTRIKE takes its roots from the toughest shoot-'em-ups, and brings that gameplay into a free-roaming, unpredictable space - and when players think they’ve conquered that, our continued support for the game will keep them on their toes with all-new game content." - Kevin McCann, President and Creative Director, Tiki Games
